GVU Wrestling Programs Take Down MVC on Iowa PBS

DES MOINES, IOWA - In a historic night for the program, the Grand View women's wrestling team put together a commanding performance on Iowa PBS, winning seven of ten matches to defeat Missouri Valley College 33-15. The dual marked the first-ever women's wrestling double dual broadcast on Iowa PBS, with the Vikings competing before the men's dual in front of a national audience.

The Vikings set the tone early as Isabelle Apple earned a technical fall victory over Janessa Avila, 12-0 in 1:56. Tristan Nitta followed with an impressive pin at the 0:57 mark against Raquel Garcia.

After dropping the 117-pound bout, Grand View responded with back-to-back wins. Catie Campbell secured a technical fall over Isla Baeza, 13-2 in 4:35, before Isabella Silva recorded the quickest pin of the night, defeating Gwendolyn Jewell in just 29 seconds.

The Vikings bounced back from a setback at 138 pounds as Sofia Delgado earned a fall over Sarina Bertram at the 3:44 mark. Nicole Olson continued the momentum with a pin of Mya Willis in 1:46.

Capping off the dual, Selena Mares dominated her match with a fall over Hollie Hedgpeth in just 51 seconds.
