Grand View vs The University of Iowa Makes Women’s Wrestling History

WAUKEE, IOWA – The Grand View women's wrestling team made history on 12/11/2025, competing against the University of Iowa in the first-ever nationally televised women's wrestling dual featuring an NCAA team. The historic matchup showcased the growth of women's wrestling and provided the Vikings an opportunity to compete against one of the premier programs in the country on a national stage. Iowa defeated Grand View 32-10, but the Vikings battled hard throughout the dual and gained valuable experience competing at the highest level.

Several Grand View wrestlers delivered strong performances against the ranked Hawkeyes. At 160 pounds, Kami Senlycki earned a forfeit victory to put points on the board for the Vikings. At 207 pounds, Andjela Prijovic had the match of the dual, battling back and forth with her opponent in a thrilling finish. After giving up an early takedown, Prijovic wrestled well and kept the score at 0-2 entering the break. She shot in on a single but was stuck underneath, yet battled back to her feet without giving up points. Late in the match, Prijovic found a hard snap-down and nearly scored on a go-behind before a stalemate was called. She found another attack with a go-behind and this time finished the job, taking the lead on criteria at 2-2 with under 30 seconds remaining. A push-out was awarded with just five seconds left, and Prijovic narrowly fell 3-2 in a hard-fought contest.

At 138 pounds, Adrienna Turner showcased tremendous heart and determination. After giving up early scores, Turner fired immediately in the second period with a quick finish to get on the board at 2-6. Moments later, she got to the legs again and fought for the finish, closing the gap to two points. Turner kept attacking, and a third single leg put her ahead on criteria at 6-6. Though she gave up late takedowns to fall 10-6, Turner's relentless effort and multiple scoring attacks demonstrated the Vikings' competitive spirit.

Other Vikings competed hard throughout their matches. At 103 pounds, Judy Sandoval controlled the center well in the second period and fought into a stalemate late in the match. At 110 pounds, Tristan Nitta secured the first takedown after defending an arm spin and finishing one of her own, tying the match at 2-2 after the first period. At 117 pounds, Mayangelie Colon pushed the pace from start to finish, putting her opponent on the passivity clock and earning push-out and passivity points. At 124 pounds, Catie Campbell earned the first point of her match and executed a great single leg attack in the second period.

The historic dual provided the Vikings valuable experience competing against elite NCAA competition on a national platform. Grand View's participation in this groundbreaking event highlighted the program's commitment to elevating women's wrestling and showcased the talent within the NAIA ranks.
