WICHITA, KANSAS - Grand View came into day two with 6 All-Americans finding their finishing spot on the podium. Although no finalists represented by the Vikings, the team showed fight in every match of the weekend and a team podium finish on the line. GV saw two 3rd-place finishes, two 4th-place finishes, and two 7th-place finishes. Grand View finished with 120.5 team points and earned a 2ND PLACE TEAM FINISH AT THE 2025 NAIA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.
JUDY SANDOVAL
Sandoval started her day off in her semifinal bout against the top-seeded Erin Hikiji (PROV). Sandoval came up short but showed fight the rest of the way. Judy took down Alexis Hatfield (AVI) with plenty of attacks and found a 12-0 TF and a spot in the bronze medal bout. Sandoval took on 7-seed Makayla Young in her placement match and executed early! She found a pin in just 39 seconds of the first period with a feet-to-back exchange.
Judy Sandoval earned 3rd place and is a 2025 NAIA All-American at 103 pounds.
TRISTAN NITTA
Nitta started the second day against 6-seeded Tehani Soares of Indiana Tech. The battle was tight throughout. They both earned passive points in the match. Soares earned a takedown late to take the lead 3-2 but Nitta wasn't out of it. Tristan put forth her best effort but got awarded a pushout to tie it. Nitta lost in criteria, 3-3. In Nitta's 7th place bout, Nizhoni Tallman was the opponent from Evergreen State. Nitta earned a takedown in the first period to go up 2-0. She continued to dominate the center of the mat in the second period and got herself two more pushout points. The match ended as Nitta was up 4-0. No. 7 seed Nitta matched her seed in the tournament with a win to end the year.
Tristan Nitta earned a 7th place finish and is a 2025 NAIA All-American at 110 pounds.
MAYANGELIE COLON
Colon entered the day on a mission for the next best thing. Colon earned a TF to start the day over 7-sed Katherine Heath of Baker. Colon only needed the first period to get that done, with four takedowns and a feet-to-back in the process. Colon faced Southern Oregon's 5-seeded Jasmine Howard in the consolation semifinal and Colon hunted for big moves. She earned a 4-point takedown early in the first period and got out to a lead. But later in the round, Colon found another feet-to-back but didn't lose the chance to end it this time. She found a fall at the end of period number one, and into the 3rd place match. Colon fell in her final bout against Shammika Miranda (CMSK). A great tournament and the guts to fight every second of the tournament.
Mayangelie Colon earned a 4th place finish and is a 2025 NAIA All-American at 117 pounds.
MAYA DAVIS
Davis started off the day with a match against her own teammate. A tough situation to watch but a tough battle between Vikings. Davis fell and entered the 7th place bout to finish her career. Maya Davis wrestled Ariana Martinez of LIFE and went out with a bang. Davis earned a couple pushouts and a takedown in the first which left her up 4-0 at the break. Davis opened up her attacks in the second period and extended her lead with a launch for four as well. Up 9-2, Maya found another four point move to end a 13-2 victory! Now a 3x AA wearing a GV singlet.
Maya Davis earned a 7th place finish and is a 2025 NAIA All-American at 124 pounds.
CATIE CAMPBELL
Catie continued her impressive run on the backside of the bracket with a win over fellow Viking, Maya Davis, as mentioned above. The consolation semifinal was an opportunity to get revenge, and revenge is what she got! Catie took down 4-seed Jasmina Immaeva of Missouri Valley, who she lost to in the championship round two. Catie won an 8-6 war, with back-and-forth action. Catie earned a feet-to-back takedown along with another two points to earn eight points on the board. This was enough, even though the great attempts from Immaeva. This was Catie's fifth straight win on the consolations side of the bracket. Catie wrestled 3-seed Joanna Vanderwood of William Penn, for 3rd. Campbell wrestled well but a couple second period takedowns proved to be the deciding factor. Catie fell 5-1 but an amazing tournament full of grit.
Catie Campbell earned a 4th place finish and is a 2025 NAIA All-American at 124 pounds.
OLIVIA BROWN
Brown wrestled 4-seed Riley Dempewolf of Indiana Tech in the national semifinal bout at 207. Brown earned the first point of the match with a passive call on Dempewolf. Brown let a point up with her own passive call in the second and the match ended in a wild fashion. Brown came up short in a 2-1 brawl. Brown fought back and showed her heart, the rest of the tournament. She took down Maquoia Bernabe of Cumberlands in the consolation semifinal, 7-0. Brown controlled the match with multiple pushouts and two takedowns. Domination from Brown continued into her 3rd place match. Brown delivered a 6-0 performance in her final as a Viking. Olivia had two takedowns in this one as well, and defeated No. 5 seed Hannah Jackson of Ottawa. Brown ended on top and added to her resume in a Grand View singlet. She showed what GV is all about.
