Vikings' Dual It Out; Olivia Brown With an Emphatic Finish

DES MOINES, IOWA  A Viking clash on Tuesday night as top ranked Grand View hosted No. 9 Missouri Valley College in Sisam Arena. The GV women's wrestlers took eight of the ten matches on the night, heading into Thanksgiving break on a high note.

Grand View had a trend going to start the night, with falls in the first 4 matches. No. 5 Devyn Moore put the pace against No. 9 ranked Sage Beltran to jump start the dual. No. 10 Tristan Nitta found another fall for GV at 110 pounds. Rolling into 117 pounds, No. 2 Cailin Campbell showed dominance against Sarah Pineda, winning all positions during the match. No. 2 Maya Davis took the mat next at 124 pounds for Grand View and made it four pins in a row for the red and black. Catie Campbell toed the line at 131 pounds tonight while currently ranked No. 4 in the NAIA at 124 pounds. She wrestled Missouri Valley's Isla Baeza who also bumped up for the night, sitting at 18th in the country at 124 pounds. Campbell looked great in this one, with impressive hand fighting and overwhelming attacks that led to a 10-0 technical fall. Laura Kipnusu followed with another TF of her own over Elizabeth Riggs. The 145- and 160-pound bouts were our two losses of the night, giving MVC nine team points. No. 1 ranked wrestler in the country, Abby McIntyre, slowed their roll. McIntyre runs through her opponent Elizabeth Hubbard, receiving GV's fifth fall of the night. To end the night, the top two wrestlers at 207 pounds took the mat. No. 2 Olivia Brown took on the No. 1 ranked NAIA wrestler in Kelani Corbett for MVC. This match was high level competition. Brown got put on the clock first, and Corbett was awarded a 1-0 lead. Brown kept her cool, and started dominating hand fights and position, controlling the center of the mat well. Brown fought back with her own passivity point and then a push out in the second period to go up 2-1. Brown held that lead and it seems we have a new No. 1 at 207 pounds! Brown with a wonderful win to cap off the night and send everyone off for the holiday break.
