DES MOINES, IOWA – Grand View Viking's women wrestling team hosted their second dual of the week to close out a ranked action-packed week. The Vikings hosted No. 16 Wayland Baptist University on Friday evening, the Vikings would take seven of the 10 bouts to cruise to 2-0 in dual action via a 34-11 win.
The Grand View women's wrestling team delivered an impressive performance in tonight's dual against Wayland Baptist University, securing a dominant 34-11 victory.
The Vikings started strong, with No. 5
Devyn Moore setting the tone at 103 lbs with a 10-0 technical fall over Malarie Dominguez in just 2:20.
Lita Cruz followed up at 110 lbs, pinning Alexis Navarette in 1:28 to extend the team's lead. No. 3
Cailin Campbell continued the momentum at 117 lbs, earning a 10-0 technical fall in just 1:21 against Nahim Arenas. Cailin's twin sister No. 5
Catie Campbell added another technical fall at 124 lbs, defeating No. 17 Tess Barnett 14-3 in a lightning-fast 17 seconds.
Julia Donnelly kept the streak alive at 131 lbs by rolling into a 10-0 technical fall over Danyl Pippin in 1:35.
Although
Laura Kipnusu fell to No. 3 Jordan Suarez by a 12-2 technical fall at 138 lbs, the Vikings bounced back with
Sofia Delgado's pin over Avery Shinkle at 145 lbs in 1:36. Wayland Baptist gained some ground with decisions at 160 lbs and 180 lbs, where Mohagany Casel and Audrey Lockhart earned victories over
Emmalee Spurgeon and
Andjela Prijovic, respectively. However,
Bella Porcelli closed out the dual in spectacular fashion for Grand View at 207 lbs, pinning No. 6 Leilani Sanchez in just 17 seconds.
The Vikings showcased their depth and dominance, claiming eight of ten matches, including five wins by technical fall or pin. The team's decisive victory underscores their strength as they continue their season.
