DES MOINES, IA – The third-ranked Viking wrestling team defeated Waldorf, 44-5, inside Sisam Arena on Friday to open its season 1-0.
The Cowboys won nine of 10 bouts, which included six victories by fall. Including one ranked match-up, where 15th-ranked
Cherei Jones pinned the 16th-ranked Kuuipo Chan.

Jalen Bets and
Judy Sandoval began the dual with victories to build up a 10-0 Viking lead. Bets notched her first fall win of the season in the first period. Sandoval would ease past the Warriors with an open bout for the Warriors.
After the open bout at 109, No. 3
Cailin Campbell turned things back up after a lengthy tech fall win over Olivia Bailey, 10-0, in the first period. No. 3
Maya Davis would match with Amanda Durrant for just a minute after pinning her to further the third-ranked Viking lead to 19-0.

Adrienna Turner and No. 3
Andrea Schlabach would hold tough for the Vikings, both turning in for fall in the first period, both adding another five points apiece to the Grand View lead.
The Vikings' upperweights would clinch the GVU victory, beginning with a pin in under a minute from No. 7
Madison Diaz. The match-up of the evening would come next, as No. 15
Cherei Jones would meet with No. 16 Kuuipo Chan. Jones would prove her endurance, outlasting the fight that was put forth by Chan, pinning her to put the Vikings two bouts away from a season-opening win.
At 170 pounds,
Destynie Pacheco would be the final Viking to add points to the lead; Pacheco would follow the evening theme as she pinned Amaya Lopez in the second period to total the Viking's score to 44.
Grand View's No. 3
Olivia Brown would find challenging positioning and eventually fall to Warrior Joanna Hendricks. Despite the final bout ending in a loss for the Vikings, Grand View would open their season with a convincing win against Waldorf University, 44-5.
The Vikings will return to action tomorrow morning as they take part of the team to Indianola for the annual Luther Hill invitational. Action will begin at 9:00 AM.
