DES MOINES, IOWA – Director of Esports, Nathan Ragsdell announced that the heart of College League of Legends (CLOL), Devin "Kolthro" Drzewucki returns to the fold in the form of Grand View University's next Head Coach for the League of Legends program.
"Devin Drzewucki was an obvious choice for GV Esports for a multitude of reasons – hyper competitive, even-tempered, forward-thinking, and compassionate with an emphasis on the fundamentals beyond just the game," said Esports Director Nathan Ragsdell.
Devin, played in CLOL throughout his entire undergraduate career while also participating in path-to-pro ventures, tallying up a strong competitive resume touting back-to-back 1st place Midwest Esports Conference finishes in both the regular season and conference playoffs for 2021 and 2022 seasons. In his senior year he also achieved top 4 at the 2022 LA ComicCon Invitational and top 3 at the 2022 HUEFest Invitational. Inside of the semi-professional pipeline North American Challengers League (NACL), Kolthro secured qualifier playoffs runs for both the 2023 Summer series' as well as both the 2024 Spring and Summer series', earning a top 4 NACL qualifier result.
Drzewucki embodies the passion and drive of what it means to compete in CLOL, serving as a longstanding pillar in the competitive League of Legends community. He aims to infuse his experience as a player and coach over the last seven years into the program and the players, starting with this philosophy:
"As the new head coach, my vision is to build not only a competitive team, but a true family. In 2022, when I was the player captain of GVU, I experienced what that really meant—a group that trusted each other and supported one another through challenges in game and out. That sense of unity is something I want to bring to this team."
Grand View has long been a steady challenger at the highest end of collegiate competition and newly appointed Head Coach Devin "Kolthro" Drzewucki is confident in continuing this history and building on it with a growth mindset.
"While winning is always the end goal, my real measure of success is in our growth. I want every player to end the semester off feeling like they gave it their all, pushed themselves beyond their limits, and grew in ways they can truly feel," says Drzewucki.
Grand View University has been a regular contender within the top 16 nationally dating back as early as 2019 with strong performances in CLOL as well as high profile invitationals such as HUEFest, Sixty Six Games Expo and LA Comic Con. The University is one of the strongest competitors in the state of Iowa and at the national stage. Under Coach Drzewucki's leadership, GV Esports stands to compound further on past successes, digging their heels to push further in the CLOL National Championships for years to come.
