PARKVILLE, MISSOURI - Grand View University League of Legends traveled to Park University in Parkville, MO on October 19. There, they competed in the Heart of America Championship Playoffs where our newest members, Miguel 'Shammwow' Magno and Aong 'InFlame' Yeangyutthapichai debuted.
GV headed into the playoffs with a perfect record of 6-0 in the regular season at the No.1 seed, playing Central Methodist University in the first best-of-three series of the morning. The Vikings made quick work of the Eagles, finishing both games in a staggering sub-20-minute timeframe and finishing the series with a 2-0 victory over CMU.
The second series took place between both of the quarter final match winners between Grand View and Park University, the playoff hosts. Our League team, faced with some more friction in this matchup, handily took the series in another 2-0, moving on to the Heart Championship finals.
Expectedly, the 2023 Heart Champions Park University, won their next series to face off once more against the Vikings for their defense of the Heart of America Champion title in another best of three series. In yet another 2-0 finish, GV cut down the Pirates to claim the 2024 Heart of America Championship with a perfect season, dropping zero games along the way.
A sign of good things to come from our newcomers, especially Aong with his aggressive but team-focused playstyle to take such decisive wins. The team will return to practicing and playing in other Fall competitions National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC), and Aegis Champion League (ACL).
