Grand View University Esports Closes Spring Season with Historic National Success Across Multiple Titles

DES MOINES, IOWA - Grand View University Esports is proud to celebrate a historic and massively successful spring competition season, highlighted by national playoff appearances, LAN qualifications, and milestone program achievements across League of Legends, Marvel Rivals, and Overwatch.

League of Legends Makes Program History

Grand View University's League of Legends team has delivered one of the most impressive seasons in program history.

The Vikings return for the NECC Division 1 National LAN Playoffs, prepared to showcase their strength as a team to defend the title of NECC National Champions.

The team also secured a Top 4 finish in the NACE Varsity Premier National Playoffs, cementing themselves as one of the premier collegiate League of Legends teams in the country dropping two close series to Winthrop and Maryville University.

Most notably, Grand View made program history in the College League of Legends (CLoL) National Playoffs. The Vikings earned a landmark victory over Fisher College, advancing beyond the Top 16 for the first time. Grand View now sits in the Top 6 nationally and remains poised to continue the run for the championship in the upper bracket, with their next matchup scheduled for May 2 against Maryville University.

"It's been a long time coming but seeing our players reach this height finally proves what we've seen in the team all along," said Grand View University Esports Director. "Breaking into the Top 6 nationally and continuing an upper-bracket run in CLoL is something we've always known we could do and now the team's hard work and dedication has paid off. But the job's not done."

Marvel Rivals Continues Rapid Rise

Grand View's Marvel Rivals team continued its upward trajectory this spring, qualifying for the NECC Division 5 National Playoffs after finishing 2nd in conference regular season play.

The accomplishment marks a linear progression from last semester, where the team finished 3rd in conference regular season standings, demonstrating strong growth and

consistency as an emerging program in the newly established collegiate Marvel Rivals competition.

Overwatch Earns Multiple National and LAN Bids

Grand View University's Overwatch Varsity roster also had an outstanding season, earning invitations and playoff qualifications across multiple premier events.

The team qualified for the Bluegrass Showdown Invitational LAN Playoffs, where they finished Top 8 among elite collegiate competition.

Additionally, Overwatch Varsity qualified for the OWCC Overwatch Nationals Playoffs, as well as the NACE Varsity Premier Playoffs, adding to an already impressive list of accomplishments this spring.

JV Overwatch then qualified for NECC Division 4 National Playoffs, narrowly missing their shot at continuing their run in a back and forth series against Fanshawe College finishing 2-3.

A Season to Remember

With multiple national playoff appearances, LAN events, and historic milestones, Grand View University Esports continues to establish itself as one of the nation's longest standing, nationally competitive college esports programs.

As the spring season continues, all eyes remain on the Vikings' League of Legends team as they prepare for their next historic CLoL playoff match on May 2.
