DES MOINES, IOWA - Grand View University Athletics and Esports is proud to announce the appointment of Kale Kester as the new Head Coach of the Overwatch program. Coming from Iowa State University Esports, Kester brings a strong background in competitive esports leadership, tournament organization, and player development to the Vikings.
In Overwatch, Kester touts regular competitive highs as a Grandmaster player, additionally bringing extensive experience managing, captaining, and coaching within college esports and community leagues like the Bad Pachimari League and Kitsune League. He also contributed to the success of the Iowa State University junior varsity Overwatch team, helping lead the squad to multiple tournament victories.
Kester's coaching philosophy centers on cultivating both competitive excellence and a genuine love for the game.
"My coaching philosophy really comes down to building and protecting players' passion for the game," said Kester. "I think competitive excellence starts with genuinely enjoying what you're doing. When players care about the game and the team they're on, they're willing to put in the work. I want our teams to compete seriously and hold high standards, while still creating an environment where players feel excited to improve."
As Head Coach, Kester will oversee player development, recruitment, competitive preparation, and program culture for Grand View's Overwatch teams. His blend of competitive experience and community leadership aligns with Grand View's commitment to developing student-athletes who excel both in competition and in character.
"We are excited to welcome Kale to Grand View Esports," said Nathan Ragsdell, Director of Esports at Grand View University. "His experience in both organizing and coaching, along with his clear passion for player development, makes him a strong fit for our program. And to find him in our own backyard [Iowa] was exciting to have him be able to work with the students in person. We're looking forward to the energy and competitive mindset he brings to our Overwatch teams."
Grand View University continues to expand its esports presence, competing at a high level while fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment for student competitors. With Kester at the helm of Overwatch, the Vikings aim to build on their competitive foundation and pursue championship-level success.
