COLUMBIA, MISSOURI - The Grand View women's bowling team competed at the Heart of America Conference Championship this past weekend, February 22-23, in Columbia, MO. Under a new ranking system and competition format, the Vikings qualified as the No. 7 seed for the tournament.
The tournament utilized a new software program, Bowl Sheets, which all NAIA teams must use to track individual and team performances throughout the season. The competition followed a double-elimination Mega-Match format, where teams had to win two points to advance. The first point was awarded based on a traditional five-player team game, and the second point was determined by the total pinfall of four Baker games. If teams split these sets, they competed in a best-of-five Baker series to determine the winner.
Match 1 vs. No. 2 William Penn In their opening match, the Vikings faced No. 2 seed William Penn. The traditional team game saw freshman Kennady Bigwood lead off with a 194, followed by junior Michelle Stewart (162), freshman Brianna Musgrave (153), senior Emilee Hall (176), and senior Isabel Tetmeyer (203). Their combined score of 888 fell just short of William Penn's 893.
In the Baker series, Grand View bowled a total of 739, losing by 32 pins and dropping to the consolation bracket.
Match 2 vs. No. 6 Columbia College The Vikings faced Columbia College in an elimination match. Individual scores included Kennady Bigwood (137), Michelle Stewart (151), Brianna Musgrave (220), Emilee Hall (198), and Isabel Tetmeyer (149), for a total of 855, falling just three pins short of Columbia's 858.
The Baker series resulted in a 646 for Grand View, while Columbia bowled a 735, ending the Vikings' tournament run.
