SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - The Grand View Viking Shotgunners wrapped up a tough week of competition with a 7th-place finish at Nationals. Despite showing flashes of greatness throughout the week, the team ultimately fell short of the top spot.
The competition was not only tough on the range but also challenging due to unpredictable weather conditions. The team faced what could only be described as "Mr. Miyagi weather" — with temperatures swinging from the 40s to the 90s, accompanied by dust storms and even a dust devil that had competitors scrambling for shelter.
"It was a great week of shooting, and we saw glimpses of what we're capable of," said the coaching staff. "Unfortunately, we left some targets out there that we probably should have hit, and our scores just didn't hold up on the final day."
Senior Cole Haynes led the way for the men with a 35th-place individual finish, while freshman MaKenna Six had a standout performance on the women's side, finishing 21st overall.
The Viking Shotgunners also excelled in the classroom, with five athletes earning ACUI/SCTP Academic All-American honors:
Despite the challenges, the Vikings showed resilience and promise for the future. The strong finish and individual highlights reflect the team's hard work and dedication throughout the season.
