WAUKEE, IOWA - Grand View's shooting sports team closed out their fall season at their home range this past weekend for the Iowa State Championships.
It was an excellent weather weekend to finish up the end of the Fall season for the shotgun team. After fighting the cold and harsh conditions in Nebraska last weekend we found ourselves in good weather to battle the other schools across Iowa. The Viking squads started pretty well on Saturday with Super Sporting and Skeet on the menu as
Cassondra Ruzicka hammered out an excellent score for the ladies with a 37 out of 50 targets, which would land her a 2nd-place finish over all the ladies in the event.
Matthew Manders was able to pound out his first perfect score in a Skeet round as the rest of the Vikings saw some excellent scores as well. Sunday would bring Trap and Sporting Clays for the team which is typically the strong suit for the Vikings, but that would not be the case today as the group found themselves struggling with only 2 members in the 90s (
Cole Haynes 96/100) (
Braeden Hirsch 93/100) which would put them down about 50 targets coming into the final event of Sporting Clays in the afternoon.
The Vikings made up some of the gap from the top squads, but it just wouldn't be enough as the Vikings ended the Fall split of the season in 5
th place overall but had a great team effort in Super Sporting Clays to land the Vikings a 3rd place finish in that event.

The Vikings will take a much-needed break to work on studies through the end of the semester and will rally together in January to begin a journey in pursuit of the National Championships in San Antonio, Texas this Spring.
