CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Grand View Vikings turned in a strong performance at the Heart of America Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, with the women's team finishing seventh and the men's team placing eighth in the final standings.
Carolyn Miller led the way with the Vikings' lone gold medal, winning the shot put outright. She also added a seventh-place finish in the discus. Addisyn Terpstra earned a runner-up finish in the 100m hurdles, and Ashlynn Works contributed a fifth-place finish in the discus. In the multi-events, Kaylin Mitchell took fifth in the heptathlon and Kaiya Gonzalez added a seventh. Leilani Mitchell also contributed a fourth-place finish in the women's 5000m racewalk.
On the men's side, Jayton Poole claimed second in the high jump and Nathan Limas did the same in the 5000m racewalk. Kannon Tippetts placed fourth in the 400m, while Elijah Alhussaini picked up a fourth in the hammer throw and Conrad Schoening added an eighth in the same event. Matthew Bonner rounded out the men's track finishers with a sixth-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase. In the multi-events, Delane Lewis placed fourth in the decathlon.
