OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS – The Grand View Vikings got underway early on Monday at the Nicklaus GC At Lionsgate in Kansas for the 2025 Heart Men's Golf Conference Championship. Coming into this week, the Vikings were ranked 3rd in the conference and hoping to make a run to win the Heart and have an automatic spot in the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
The Vikings teed off Monday at 9:00 am for round one where they faced a challenging course, with a course rating of 75.1 and a slope of 140. With the tough course, temperatures in the 50's, and wind blowing 13mph and gusting to 18mph, the Vikings and the field were in for a long day of golf. The Vikings struggled to find their footing in round 1 struggling throughout the round, but showed flashes of great play including 7 birdies and an eagle. Leading the way was Harrison Froling shooting 80 (+8). Gabe Beardley, the lone senior in the lineup, followed suit carding an 81 (+9) and was closely pursued by Calvin McNealy with an 82 (+10). Finishing off scoring was Krish Gupta, shooting an 84 (+12).
After round 1 the Vikings were sitting T-5th and looking to improve heading into the 2nd round of the day. In round two four Vikings improved their scores from the first round. Jack Winkel improved 8 shots, Gabe Beardsley improved 6 shots, Krish Gupta improved 4 shots, and rounding out round 4 was Calvin McNealy who improved by 1 shot. After two rounds Grand View sat in 5th place firing rounds of 327 (+39) and 314 (+26).
The weather was slightly chillier for day two/round 3 of the Heart Men's Golf Championship. The Vikings held tee times from 8:00 am to 8:40 am, with a frigid temperature of 43 degrees paired with high humidity. The Vikings fired their lowest round of the championship in round 3, 309 (+21), shooting the second lowest team score of the day. Harrison Froling bounced back in round 3 posting a 75 (+3) after struggling to score in the second round. Jack Winkel, Krish Gupta, and Gabe Beardsley followed each other shooting rounds of 77 (+5), 78 (+6), and 79 (+7). Grand View moved up the leaderboard two spots to secure a 3rd place finish shooting a tournament total of 950 for the three round HOA Championship.
