VONORE, TN – The Grand View Vikings took a road trip to Vonore, Tennessee this past weekend to compete in the Bojangles Invitational. The Bojangles Invitational took place at The Links at Kahite Golf Club, where the Vikings secured third place among eleven teams competing.
The Vikings teed off on Saturday at 8:15 AM for round one of their final fall tournament. The Links at Kahite GC is a par 72 course and played at a length of 7,170 yards.
Krish Gupta led Grand View in the opening round, posting an even-par score of 72. Gupta was able to birdie two of his last four holes to get back to even par before ending his round. Following close behind Gupta was
Jack Winkel, shooting a 73 (+1). Closing out the first-round scoring for the Vikings were
Harrison Froling shooting a 78 (+6) and Calvin McNeeley shooting 80 (+8). Grand View shot 303 (+15) and sat in 5th place after round one.
Grand View started round two strong with opening birdies from Froling, Winkel, and
Cade McGill. The Vikings started to move up the leaderboard, catching Northwestern Ohio College after the first six holes. Grand View rattled off twenty birdies and an eagle in round two, passing Midway College on the closing holes and moving up two spots to third place.
Harrison Froling and
Jack Winkel led the way in the round, followed by Gupta and McNeeley. Froling fired a 68 (-4), which included five birdies and one bogey.
Jack Winkel followed closely behind with an impressive 69 (-3), which included five birdies and an eagle. Gupta and McNeely rounded out the Vikings with rounds of 75 (+3) and 76 (+4), respectively. This even par score of 288 pushed the Vikings into third place heading into round three on Sunday.
In round three the Vikings were steady and had gained eleven strokes on the second-place team by their sixth and seventh holes. Despite being just five shots behind second place, the tournament experienced a delay and was ultimately cancelled. As a result, only the scores from Saturday's rounds were considered final. Unfortunately, Grand View's final round push could not conclude, and the Vikings took third place, ending their Fall season towards the top of the leaderboard.
Jack Winkel finished the Bojangles Invitational in a tie for fourth, shooting 142 (-2) and being a part of the All-Tournament Team. The Vikings closed out individual placings with Froling at t-9th (+2), Gupta at t-11th (+3), McNeely at t-38th (+12), and McGill at 53rd (+18).
