ANKENY, IOWA – The Grand View women hosted the Viking Classic this weekend at Otter Creek Golf Course. The Vikings navigated the course like true vets this weekend as they took home the Viking Classic title this week! Grand View finished with a total of 626 (+58) strokes through the 36-hole tournament, edging out the other 5 teams in competition.
The Vikings four golfers this weekend all finished in the top 5 of the field! Jaya West led the pack with a 76 (+5), 75 (+4) on the scorecard. Pars are the name of the game and West stuck to that script, firing off 23 pars in the 36-hole tournament. This was enough for her to finish solo 2nd at the Classic!
A pair of seniors came in at T3 in the field. Kate Rehfeldt and Megan Riesselman both finished 12 over par in the two days. Rehfeldt's first round showed aggressiveness, finding 3 birdies during the round. She finished with a 76 (+5) on the day and rattled off a 78 (+7) the following round. Riesselman fired off the best 18 holes of the week for the Vikings, with a 74 (+3). She had a birdie to match her bogey on the back nine, having an even nine-hole finish. Riesselman found a little more difficulty on the second day, but an 80 (+9) was still good enough for the top 3 finish and a well-fought tournament.
Dani Hurt rounds up the women Vikings this week with a consistent couple rounds! She finished with an 82 (+11) and an 85 (+14) and 5th for the tournament! Hurt is finding her rhythm on the course and is looking to continue raising her level of play as the season progresses.
Grand View shows their dominance at their home course this week and creates momentum heading forward, with one more tournament in this fall season. Rehfeldt and Riesselman both get to share a moment together as they played their last collegiate competition at Otter Creek Golf Course and celebrate a victory. Grand View is grateful for Otter Creek hosting another tournament for the University and glad we represented it well!
