DAVENPORT, IA — The Vikings wasted no time setting the tone on the road, scoring three times in the opening 28 minutes and cruising to a 4-1 win over St. Ambrose (IA) on Monday at SVAC. The win moves Grand View to 3-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.
Grand View struck early and often. Lucas Newhard opened the scoring just 1:10 into the match for his first goal of the season, and Wilmont Manneh doubled the lead in the 12th minute. Manneh added his second of the match in the 27th minute, capping a fast start that put Grand View ahead 3-0 before the midway point of the first half. St. Ambrose had a few looks of its own, but Luis Helm and the Grand View defense held firm to close out a dominant opening 45 minutes.
The second half saw Grand View continue to control possession and create chances, with Manneh, Pau Gonzalez, and Hayato Yoshitake all testing the St. Ambrose goalkeeper without breaking through. St. Ambrose finally got on the board in the 73rd minute to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Grand View answered the response with a strong finish. Kais Sabic came close in the 76th minute with a shot off the crossbar before finding the back of the net in the 85th minute to restore the three-goal margin and seal the 4-1 final.
