Vikings Fall to Benedictine on the Road, 66-48

ATCHISON, KANSAS – The Grand View women's basketball team fell to Benedictine 66-48 on Saturday afternoon, struggling to find offensive rhythm on the road. 

Benedictine controlled the opening quarter, jumping out to an early lead. The Ravens scored the first six points before Anna Gossling put Grand View on the board with a layup and free throw to make it 6-3. Gossling added a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 9-6, but Benedictine extended their lead to 13-6. Gossling hit another three-pointer assisted by Lily Smith to make it 15-9, and added a layup assisted by Eva Solseth to bring the Vikings within 18-11. The Ravens closed the quarter strong to take a 22-13 lead. 

The second quarter saw Grand View make a push. Taryn Ottemann scored to cut it to 27-15 followed by a Gossling score and a free throw to bring the Vikings within 31-18. Davison connected on back-to-back three-pointers assisted by Ottemann to cut the deficit to 33-26, and Smith scored to make it 33-28. Smith knocked down a three-pointer assisted by Davison to cut it to 33-31. Gossling added a three-pointer assisted by Ottemann to make it 37-34 at halftime, trailing by only three. 

Benedictine regained control in the third quarter. Davison scored to cut it to 44-36, and Gossling hit a three-pointer to make it 44-39. Davison added two free throws to bring the Vikings within 46-41, but the Ravens responded. The Vikings trailed 52-41 heading into the fourth quarter. 

In the final period, Eva Peterson hit a three-pointer assisted by Ellie Knock to cut it to 52-44, and Davison scored to make it 55-46. Smith hit a free throw to bring Grand View within 59-47, and Ottemann added a free throw to cut it to 63-48, but Benedictine held on for the 66-48 victory. 

GAME NOTES:  

  • Anna Gossling led Grand View with 20 points on 7 of 18 shooting, hitting 4-of-13 three-pointers, and added 4 rebounds and 2steals. 

  • Amaya Davison contributed 14 points on 4 of 11 shooting and grabbed 5 rebounds.  

WHATS NEXT? 

The Vikings return home on Wednesday, January 21st where they will take on William Penn. The Vikings are now 12-7 overall, and 9-2 in conference play.
