Vikings Cruise Past William Penn 76-53 in Conference Victory

DES MOINES, IOWA - The Grand View women's basketball team dominated from start to finish, defeating William Penn 76-53 in a decisive conference victory at home.

The Vikings came out firing with Eva Solseth scoring a layup assisted by Anna Gossling to tie the game at 2-2. Amaya Davison connected on a three-pointer assisted by Ellie Knock to give Grand View a 5-2 lead, and Solseth added another three-pointer assisted by Gossling to extend the advantage to 8-2. Gossling converted two free throws to push the lead to 10-4, and Solseth drained her second three-pointer of the quarter, assisted by Eva Peterson, to make it 13-5. Taryn Ottemann made two free throws, and Davison scored a layup in the paint to give the Vikings a 17-8 lead. Knock added a fastbreak layup assisted by Solseth, and Lily Smith capped the quarter with a jumper as Grand View took a commanding 21-8 lead after one period.

Grand View continued to pull away in the second quarter. Knock scored a layup in the paint to extend the lead to 23-8, and Davison added consecutive layups to push the advantage to 27-9. Davison converted a three-point play to make it 30-9, and Peterson drained a three-pointer assisted by Ottemann to give the Vikings their largest lead of the half at 33-9. Davison made another free throw, and Knock scored a layup to help Grand View take a 36-16 lead. Gossling hit a three-pointer assisted by Peterson late in the quarter, and the Vikings carried a comfortable 39-20 halftime advantage.

The Vikings showed no signs of slowing down in the third quarter. Gossling opened with a three-pointer to push the lead to 42-20, and Knock connected on a three-pointer assisted by Gossling to extend it to 45-24. Claire Galbraith added a jumper, and Gossling scored a layup in the paint assisted by Davison to make it 49-27. Davison made two free throws and scored another layup assisted by Gossling to push the lead to 53-27. Knock converted a layup assisted by Davison, and Gossling drained another three-pointer to give Grand View a commanding 58-31 advantage. Ottemann added a layup assisted by Peterson, and Peterson scored to help the Vikings take a 62-38 lead into the final period.
Grand View maintained control throughout the fourth quarter. Hannah Hartley scored a layup assisted by Solseth, and Davison added another to extend the lead to 66-38. Hartley scored again assisted by Galbraith to make it 68-38, and Galbraith added a jumper to push the advantage to 70-40. Knock scored a layup in the paint, and Gossling capped a fastbreak with a layup to give the Vikings their largest lead of the game at 74-40. Peterson added a layup, and the Vikings cruised to a 76-53 victory.
