MARSHALL, MISSOURI – The Grand View women's basketball team fell to Missouri Valley 66-42 on Saturday afternoon, struggling offensively throughout the contest.
Missouri Valley controlled the game from the opening tip. The home team jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Claire Galbraith scored Grand View's first basket. Anna Gossling hit a free throw and a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 7-6, but Missouri Valley responded to take an 11-6 advantage. Gossling added a layup assisted by Eva Peterson to bring Grand View within 13-8, and Amaya Davison scored to make it 13-10 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Missouri Valley extend their lead. Taryn Ottemann scored to cut it to 22-14, and Davison hit two free throws to make it 22-16. Gossling added a jumper and a three-pointer to bring Grand View within 26-21, but the home team answered. Missouri Valley took a 32-25 halftime lead.
The third quarter proved difficult for Grand View as Missouri Valley built a commanding advantage. Davison hit a free throw to make it 39-26, but the home team extended their lead throughout the period. Galbraith scored to cut it to 44-28 late in the quarter, and Ottemann added a free throw as Grand View trailed 46-29 heading into the fourth.
In the final period, Ottemann provided a spark off the bench. Eva Peterson scored to make it 49-31, and Galbraith hit a free throw to cut it to 52-32. Ottemann scored a layup and hit back-to-back three-pointers to bring Grand View within 62-37. Hannah Hartley added a layup late, but Missouri Valley held on for the 66-42 victory.

Grand View will head to Parkville, Missouri to take on the Park Pirates. The Vikings are now 8-1 in conference play and look to bounce back on Wednesday, January 14th.
