ORANGE CITY, IOWA - The Grand View women's basketball team faced off against No. 1 Dordt University on Tuesday night in a tough road match up, falling 65-53.
The Vikings came out firing in the first quarter, fueled by a hot hand from
Claire Galbraith, who knocked down a three and finished two layups on perfect shooting to help Grand View take an early 5-point lead. Dordt responded with a run of their own, briefly grabbing the lead before
Anna Gossling buried a three and Galbraith hit a buzzer-beater to close the quarter with the Vikings up 21–17.
Dordt regained the advantage early in the second, taking a 22–21 lead, but the Vikings quickly answered with a Galbraith layup and a drawn charge on the defensive end to spark momentum once again. Grand View's hustle plays and defensive energy pushed them back ahead 26-22 midway through the period, before Dordt snatched the lead back in the final seconds closing the half in favor of the Defenders, 33-32.
The Defenders came out strong after halftime, stringing together a 9-0 run to go up by double digits.
Kori Alcorn connected on a mid-range jumper and
Ellie Knock finished through contact in the lane to trim the deficit to six late in the third, but Dordt closed the quarter with a late basket to restore an 8-point cushion.
Dordt opened the final frame with another quick 7-1 run to extend the lead to 14. Grand View continued to battle, getting key buckets from
Eva Solseth and
Amaya Davison, but every Viking push was met with an answer from Dordt. Grand View and Dordt traded baskets until the end, not being able to close the gap, falling 65-53.
