GV Comes Up Short in Final Home Game

DES MOINES, IOWA – Grand View hosted Graceland University tonight for their last regular season home game of the season. Grand View kept pace up and strong efforts from players all night, but a closely contested loss in the end.

Grand View started more aggressive in this game, pushing the ball early in the game. The Yellowjackets had their own pushes as well, and an early shot by No. 30 hit the crossbar at 41'. The Vikings didn't have anything going again until the 32' minute mark. Olivia Boyle sent a free kick just outside the 18 and had a chance as it flew over the left corner.

Graceland responded with another crossbar attempt which came on a header from No. 20. Just following, Maya Fritz saved a low bullet from the Yellowjackets, keeping them off the board.

GV responded again with offense as Soleil Collins broke away for a right foot shot crossing the goal, but a great save by the Graceland goalkeeper kept things even at 22'.

Grand View defense was bunched up near the end of the goalie box, and a strike from No. 30 got passed the defense and hit the back of the net. Near the 15', Grand View now trailed 0-1.

Grand View continued to have stress on the defense, and another crossbar was hit off a corner from No. 10 and a left leg from No. 3 of Graceland. Shortly after, Fritz made a diving save out to her left. Things stalled out into halftime with a 1-point deficit.

The second half started as the sun set, and the Vikings needing some offense to tie things. Fritz earned a couple saves to start the period and a diving stop at 27'.

After an opening, Graceland's No. 10 put the second goal of the game in, off the assist from No. 20. Grand View is now down two, and some work to do.

Grand View struggled to get into enemy territory as Graceland's possession and patience on offense was showing.

At the 12-minute mark, the Vikings had a huge substitution change. This momentum carried into a couple of corner kicks. Olivia Boyle sent a beautiful ball that had a chance but found a Graceland defender to head it away. Alyssa Beasley sent the next corner kick on the other end, but a foul ended the offensive attack.

More back and forth, but no attacks were built up until six minutes left in regulation. Graceland sent a corner by No. 14 and a shot on goal was had. Fritz handled the chaos well and corralled the attack.

The game got chippy towards the end, and the first yellow card was given out to the Yellowjackets, under 5' to play. Shortly after, Grand View was given a yellow card on the far side of the field.

Grand View put together a couple of attacks late from Dayana Espinoza and Taylor Pattee

GV couldn't get passed the great defense of Graceland, and the game stalled out at 0-2.
