DES MOINES, IOWA – Grand View hosted the Graceland Yellowjackets for this Wednesday night matchup. This is the Vikings' last home game of the regular season as they look to finish the season strong.
Postponed due to the rain yesterday, the Vikings looked to stay motivated in this important conference game. The Vikings were slow to start as Graceland earned an early corner kick. Both sides couldn't get much going until the Vikings fired shots after corners from Ignacio Gonzalez.
Grand View punched another shot off the foot of Pietro Piacenza that was blocked. The Vikings had things on the offensive side for most of the half, except for a shot inside 20' minutes from No. 15.
GV responded with another great attack, and the best look of the game. Piacenza passed through the box to Justin Figaroa and a clean look, but an outstanding save from the Graceland goalie kept us off the board.
The next three Grand View attacks that had chances came from Tim Schoorlemmer. The first two went wide left across the goal. But the third chance came at the 41st minute, and Tim put this one into the top right piece of the net! GV gets on the board to end the half up 1-0.
Grand View entered the second half and looked fresh. The offensive end showed control and confidence early. Grand View's No. 11 Herman Furumo scored a goal just 4 minutes into the second half, on an assist from Braden Schoene. That gave insurance to the Vikings as they continued to push the pace.
No. 25 for the Yellowjackets put a shot on goal nearing the 60-minute mark, but Luis Helm handled the attack for a save.
The game gained more intensity throughout the game, and a yellow card was given to the Graceland sideline, with just over 25 minutes remaining.
Grand View didn't let down on the throttle. GV sent two huge attacks shortly after the yellow by Piacenza and Figaroa. Saves by Graceland's No. 33 were impressive after the deliveries and kept the lead at 2.
A lot of action went into the next minute, but nothing happened until the 9 minutes left in the game. Grand View earned a corner kick after a header from No. 24, Kevin Ventura. Directly following, No. 5 Daniel Sandoval connected at the top of the 18 to put the Vikings third goal up on the board. The assist was awarded to No. 34 Payton Chapman.
The Vikings weren't done yet. Just three minutes later, GV was back into enemy territory. No. 7 Wilmont Manneh delivered a Grand View 4th goal on the assist from No. 11 Herman Furumo. The Vikings a putting a stamp on this game, leaving nothing to chance in tonight's contest.
Grand View ended the night 4-0 and one game away from taking home a regular season Heart of America title.
