DES MOINES, IOWA — On Saturday afternoon, Men's Soccer played out a frustrating tie against Concordia (NE) Bulldogs at Cownie Soccer Complex. After going a goal down, the Vikings fought hard to equalize but could not manage a second goal, with the game ending 1-1.
After some impressive results, the Bulldogs came to Des Moines with the possibility of being a tough opponent for the Vikings. Both defenses were tested early in the first half, but the Bulldogs struck first in the 13
th minute following a dangerous set-piece. This forced the Vikings to kick into gear, dominating possession and creating chances. In the 35
th minute, the ball fell kindly to the edge of the box for
Warren Sung, whose deflected effort trickled into the bottom corner to make it 1-1 just 10 minutes before the half. During these last 10 minutes, the Vikings kept the pressure on but just could not get the 2
nd goal before the break.
In the 2
nd half, the Bulldogs would cancel out the momentum gathered by the Vikings, as they were much more defensively secure.
Scott Pengelly was called into action occasionally but was never thoroughly tested by the Bulldog's offense. Grand View continued to look like the team in charge, but they were limited to shots from distance and half-chances that would ultimately go astray. Frustratingly, the Vikings had to settle for a 1-1 tie as the game ended.
