DES MOINES, IOWA – In the opening game of the Heart of America Conference, Men's Soccer faced up against the ever-strong Central Methodist at Cownie Soccer Complex. After an evenly contested first half, CMU produced a 4-0 victory over the Vikings.
With the start of conference play, the Vikings looked to kick on from positive results in non-conference. CMU was on top for the first 15 minutes, and they capitalized on this pressure in the 13
th minute as the ball got deflected into the goal following a cross from the right side. Vikings then began to grow into the game, and it could be argued that they were the stronger side for the remainder of the first half, but they were left with a 1-0 deficit at the half.
CMU also started the second half the strongest, as the Vikings lost the momentum that they had gained in the first half. In the 48
th minute, the Eagles added another goal. With the score at 2-0, Grand View struggled to get back into proceedings, and CMU would score another in the 57
th minute as the forward finished well past
Pengelly. Finally, the Eagles would put the game to bed, scoring a penalty in the 75
th minute. The game would end 4-0.
