ATCHINSON, KANSAS — On Saturday night, Grand View produced its most impressive performance yet as it tied with Benedictine Ravens on the road. Men's Soccer led the game 2-0, but the Ravens came back to tie the game 2-2 late on.
In the early proceedings, Benedictine dominated possession, but the Vikings' defense stood strong and prevented them from creating any clear-cut chances. Grand View's main threat to the attack continued to be through the expert control of
Clement Scaccia; however, the game remained stagnant as both teams' goalkeepers remained untested. The best chance of the half came in the 40
th minute when
Marco Kramer slipped through
Pietro Piacenza, but his shot was saved. These two would combine again, and
Piacenza would be unlucky not to be awarded a penalty after being brought down in the box. The first half would end 0-0.
In the 2
nd half, the Vikings would continue to combine and attack in numbers, with
Martin Launay shooting on target early. Just a few moments later,
Joshua Grosser would use his electric speed to get in behind the Ravens' defense and slide the ball home to make it 1-0 to the Vikings. After going behind, the Ravens struggled to create anything, and things became worse in the 60th minute when Grosser found
Warren Sung, who produced a sweet half-volley into the back of the net to make it 2-0 Vikings. As Grand View continued to dominate this game, Benedictine would win a penalty against the run of play and convert it in the 74
th minute to make it 2-1. This goal would ignite the Ravens as they applied continuous pressure on the Vikings' defense, with
Scott Pengelly making a top save in the 79
th minute to keep his team in the lead. This pressure did not stop, and the Ravens would capitalize in the 83
rd minute to tie the game 2-2. Neither team could grab the winner after having chances at both ends, and it would finish 2-2.
