Box Score OSAKLOOSA, IOWA – The rivalry between Grand View and William Penn Men's Soccer was renewed on Tuesday night. The Vikings were defeated 6-1 in what turned into a night to forget.
Men's Soccer made the short journey to Oskaloosa to contest with the Heart of America Conference leaders, William Penn, who are also nationally ranked No. 6. It did not take long for this game to come alive, as the Statesmen found a way through the Vikings' defense in the 7th minute to take an early lead. They would then add a second just two minutes later with a well-worked set piece. After these two quick-fire goals, the Vikings settled their nerves and began to possess the ball, making it a much more even affair for the remainder of the first half. Just before the break,
Charlie Wells would strike the post with a header off a
Warren Sung corner, and the halftime score would be 2-0 to the Statesmen.
The 2nd half was all too similar for the Vikings, as they conceded another two rapid goals in the 46th minute, and the 48th minute. The Statesmen continued to attack and added a 5th goal in the 57th minute. With the score at 5-0, Grand View continued to reach their wingers, and in the 68th minute
Joshua Grosser slipped
Benedikt Zechmeister through and the Austrian midfielder finishing expertly with his left foot. Ultimately, this would be a consolation goal for the Vikings, as William Penn would add a 6th in the 74th minute, and the game would end 6-1. This defeat moves the Vikings to 3-5-4 for the season.
