DES MOINES, IOWA – Men's Soccer faced Midland Warriors in the first home game of the 2024 season. After controlling most of the game, the Vikings were defeated 4-2 at Cownie Soccer Complex.
Men's Soccer looked to build on their 2-1 win over Morningside with a midweek contest against Midland Warriors. In what is becoming a trend for the Vikings, the scoreline was not 0-0 for long, as Midland took the lead with a stunning free kick in the 4
th minute. This would test the new-look Vikings' ability to face adversity. Just 10 minutes later,
Marco Baioni picked out
Samuel Londono with a cross-field pass, and
Londono controlled it expertly with his chest before whipping the ball into the top right corner. For the rest of the 1st half, the Vikings dominated possession. On his debut in the 41st minute,
Warren Sung created a carbon copy of
Londono's goal by curling an effort into the same top right corner with his left foot. The Vikings went into the half leading 2-1.
Unfortunately, the 2
nd half was largely contrasting. The Warriors began to grow into the game and equalized in the 73
rd minute. As their momentum continued to build, the Warriors took the lead in the 78
th minute, which forced the Vikings to make attacking changes and be riskier in their play. Midland broke once more in the 82
nd minute to finish the game, finishing with a score of 4-2.
