Ozark, MO - The Grand View Vikings are set to open postseason play against Mount Mercy University. This is a rematch of the tournament's opening round last year where Grand View came out on top 5-3.
The Vikings secured the 6th seed in the Heart of America Conference Tournament closing out the regular season with a 24-21 record. The Heart of America Conference tournament runs from May 2nd to May 7th and is a double elimination format. The Viking's first pitch is set for 5:00 PM on Thursday.
The last time these two teams faced off was a day of sweeps as the Mustangs claimed games one and two, and the Vikings took games three and four of the series. This is a team Grand View is very familiar with, with an overall series record of 35-25 in favor of the Vikings dating back to 2007, and going 7-3 in the last 10 matchups.
Keys that are going to help out the Vikings, keeping their bats hot and scoring early. An offensive-heavy team relies on their bats to put some runs on the board, scoring in the first inning 21 times this season. The Vikings posted a .329 batting average with a .416 on-base percentage. Totaling 175 extra-base hits (76 HR) on the season raking them second in the conference. The Vikings have many threats up and down the lineup looking to string some hits together and duplicate what they did just a year ago.
Looking ahead in the tournament, if the Vikings win their first-round matchup they will play at 8:30 PM awaiting the winner of MidAmerica Nazarene and William Penn/Peru State game. That game will follow the ending of Grand View's first-round matchup. Having won the tournament last year, the Vikings remain under the radar as they start their post-season run this week.
