Vikings Hold Pirates to 18 First Half Points in Blowout Win, 77-49

DES MOINES, IOWA – 17th ranked Grand View took to their home court in looks to bounce back following a tough road loss. The Vikings held the Pirates to 18 points in two quarters as they rolled over Park University, 49-77.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
No. 17 Grand View picked up an early lead over the Vikings with an early 10-0 run over the Pirates. Park would fall into a run of their own, only trailing by four with under four minutes remaining in the first quarter. A big three-pointer by Lauren Conrey would spark Grand View's offense as they led the Pirates 19-10.

Both teams remained scoreless for the opening minutes of the second quarter. Another 8-0 Grand View's run was highlighted by a hot three-point shooting from Grand View sparked by Murray. A pair of three-point throws followed by an Anna Gossling three gave GVU a 19-point lead, creating the gap between the two teams before the half as Grand View led 42-18.

Grand View jumped on the Pirates after their halftime intermission, rattling off a quick 8 points, all from Ella Larsen's hands. The Vikings quickly diminished any hope of a Pirate comeback; a pair of free throws from Brianna Fields gave GVU a 30-point lead. After splitting a pair of free throws, Larsen gave the Vikings a 32-point lead as they closed in on the fourth quarter.

The Vikings held their largest lead of the fourth quarter as Murray connected on her fifth free throw of the contest. GVU quickly finished the game, bouncing back with a win following a tough road contest this past weekend, 49-77.

GAME NOTES:
  • The Vikings never trailed in the contest.
  • GVU scored 34 points off of Park turnovers.
  • Larsen led the way with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five steals.
