Vikings Earn First Heart Win in Straight-Sets over the Pride

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The fifth-ranked Grand View University men's volleyball team put together a dominant performance in a straight-set victory over Clarke Tuesday in the Heart of America Opener. Set scores were 25-13, 25-17, 25-20.

Grand View dominated in set one, jumping out to an early 10-3 lead. Daniel Wong led the way for the Vikings, recording a block and a kill during their early rally. The Pride struggled to keep up with Grand View as the Vikings opened with a set one win over the Pride in Kehl Center, 25-13

After trading side-outs, the Vikings went off for four straight points, highlighted by two blocks from middle Ryan Griffel. GVU would struggle from the service line, as they amounted to 8 of the Prides points. Nonetheless, the Vikings dominated late towards the end of the second set, forcing the Pride into a last-ditch effort timeout. Wong would shut the door on a Pride rally as Rafael Obrusnik assisted on match point, 25-17.

Clarke would put up a fight in the third set. The Vikings, however, would catch points from all over the floor. Daniel Galili went for three straight kills, building a 16-9 lead over CU. A block by one would end the Pride run, solidifying a straight-set victory for the Vikings, opening them up 1-0 in the Heart.
