Grit and Determination: Vikings Hold Off Baker to a Standstill in Kansas

Box Score

BALDWIN CITY, KANSAS Women's soccer took on Baker University Saturday night in a conference matchup. The Vikings felt the pressure from Baker early in the night, as they found five corner kicks in the first 22 minutes on the pitch. GV calmed the storm beautifully, with great defensive play in the box and great effort from Maya Fritz, saving a header in the process. The Vikings soon got into their own groove on offense with shots by Ginevra Spinelli and Olivia Boyle at the back end of the first half.

In the second half, the women saw much of the same. Grand View held off more attacks from the Wildcats. The Vikings continued to play more physically as the game went on, accruing eight total fouls in the last 45 minutes compared to their two fouls in the first half. Baker continued to find chances with corner kicks, but the Vikings consistently fought them off.

The contest proved to be an even contest all night, but the women showed no shortage of heart in this weekend battle in Kansas.
