No. 17 Vikings Blowout Statesmen, 10-0 on the Road

DES MOINES, IOWA – 17th ranked Vikings hit the road to Oskaloosa, IA, to compete against the Statesmen of William Penn, hitting the first leg of a two-way game week. The Vikings would never trail in the contest as they went for an 89-63 blowout win over William Penn.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Vikings saw another big night from Cleao Murray, who posted her second consecutive contest with 20+ points. Kaylyn Meyers would collect the first Grand View basket in the paint drawing to an early tie with the Statesmen. A 9-0 run from Grand View would bring them to the end of the first quarter as they led the Statesmen 21-14.

Grand View nearly hit a twenty-point lead just a few minutes into the second quarter. Katie Fogarty hit a jump shot, extending their advantage to 31-14. The Statesmen would struggle to cut into the Vikings lead as Grand View would answer on over 60% of their shots from the field. Gossling and Murray led the way in the second quarter. Murray finished the first half with 7 points on 3-6 from the field. Gossling chipped in eight, being the leading scorer for the Vikings in the first 20 minutes on perfect shooting from three (1-1) and the field (3-3).

The Vikings quickly quashed any hopes of a Statesmen comeback as they hit a 20-point lead just under five minutes after starting point guard Ellie Rengstorf found a bucket in transition. Back-to-back Gossling threes would allow the Vikings to keep their 20-point lead as they closed out the third quarter leading 69-48.

Grand View would not let off the gas in the fourth quarter. GVU would see the largest lead of the contest of 28 points after a Fogarty jumper. Grand View would maintain a lead above 20 points as they captured their 10th road win of the season, 89-63.

  • The Vikings remain undefeated on the road, moving to 10-0 in away contests.
