MARSHALL, MISSOURI – No. 18 Grand View capped off a long trip down south with their third straight victory. Following the day turnaround from their gritty game against the Wildcats of Baker University – The Vikings keep their foot on the gas through all four quarters versus Missouri Valley. They travel back to Des Moines with an 83-69 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Grand View struck first for the third contest in a row.
Anna Gossling scored on the Vikings' opening possession, connecting on a three-pointer. Missouri Valley would collect its first lead of the contest, but the Vikings' high scorer of the evening,
Cleao Murray, would cut the deficit to five. A GVU run would put the Vikings within a four-point reach at the conclusion of the opening quarter, 21-17.
The Vikings came out of the gate early in the second quarter, regaining their lead thanks to back-to-back threes from
Lauren Conrey. A turnover from MVC resulted in four quick points for
Ellie Rengstorf and the Vikings' largest lead of the contest by almost the halfway point of the quarter after trailing in the opening moments. Murray's second three of the second quarter closed out first-half play with a twelve-point lead, 45-33.
Missouri Valley would trouble the Vikings in the third quarter. Cutting GVU's lead down to seven. A 6-2 run conducted by Gossling and Murray would allow the Vikings to carry their double-digit lead into the fourth quarter.
Grand View finished things strong in the fourth quarter.
Cleao Murray added 10 points to her career-high day in the fourth quarter. The Vikings were able to escape Missouri with their 3
rd straight win in five days. Murray, named Heart of America Player of the Week, went 11-22 from the field and 4-9 from three-point range, ringing up 29 points with four rebounds.
GAME NOTES:
- The Vikings now sit 17-2 overall and 13-2 in the Heart with an undefeated (8-0) road record.
- Ella Larsen marked her 11th double-double of the season.
- Grand View shot 50% from 3, on 11-22.
