5 Vikings Score in Season-Opening Win over No. 22 Hastings

DES MOINES, IA – Grand View men's soccer opened up their 2023 season with a test against a ranked foe in No. 22 Hastings College. The Vikings opened things up right away and kept the pedal down, finding goals in five different Vikings for a 5-0 win over the Broncos.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first goal of the contest would come from Jaren Obia, in the 28th minute, followed right back up with a goal in the same minute by Rune Petersen assisted by Lucas Newhard. The Vikings and goalie Emiliano Laguna would manage to defend enough to keep the Broncos off the board for the first half of play. In the 33rd minute, Sammy Londono would immediately make an impact on substitution as he would find the back of the net with a screamer to the top right corner off of an assist from Marco Baioni, closing out the first half 3-0.

The Vikings back line was able to keep the Broncos attack at bay in the second half when things became chippy. A goal from transfer defender, Payton Chapman, would give Baioni his second assist from the corner kick. Another Viking would find an immediate impact on substitution, less than five minutes after substitution Konrad McKeown would get goal one from an assist by Robin Vandewalle
