The contest would get off to a hot start as Vanessa Perez-Sandoval would have her shot in the first minute blocked, only for Josi Lonneman to clean things up from the left side and put it in the back of the net to give her goal one-on the season, and a 1-0 lead would comfort the Vikings for much of the first half.
Both teams would have opportunities throughout the first half to score, but none would come out successful. Maya Fritz the freshman keeper from Dallas-Center would record 2 saves in the first half.
A scramble in the seventy-fifth minute would lead to a sneaky goal for the Flames. An answer by the Vikings looked promising but a late offside would put a halt to it, resulting in the non-conference opener ending in a tie, 1-1.
