Vikings 28-point Quarter too Much for the Statesmen to Overcome

DES MOINES, IOWA - Grand View hosted the Statesmen of William Penn University for their second to last contest of the first semester. The Vikings dominated the second half, harvesting 28 points in the second half to blow past the Statesmen, 84-67. Ella Larsen finished with a season-high 26 points and eight rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Vikings opened things up quickly, with a connection from three-point range by Cleao Murray. The Statesmen wouldn't find the board until over a minute into the contest. By this time, the Vikings jumped to a five-point lead after Rachel Leerar found two in transition. WPU found an equalizer with a three-pointer of their own at the 6:00 minute mark. The No. 22 Vikings distanced themselves once again after Red Oak native Ellie Rengstorf connected on a pair of free throws, making the score 19-16 heading into the second quarter.

Larsen hit another two points, adding to her stat line that led the team at halftime. Grand View hit their first double-digit lead after Anna stole two free throws on a technical foul against William Penn. The Vikings maintained their double-digit lead by taking advantage of fouls by the Statesmen, going 13-14 from the stripe. The Vikings headed into the locker room with a comfortable 10-point lead.

The Vikings would open up the third quarter with another big three from Larsen, extending the Vikings lead to 13 points. Grand View would capitalize on the Penn turnovers, adding to their lead; a Leerar lay-in would result from a Cleao Murray steal in the backcourt. Anna Gossling hit another three before forcing the Statesmen into a full timeout as they led by 26.

Katie Fogarty would get hot in the final quarter for Grand View, collecting nine points as the Vikings ran away with things in the fourth quarter, 84-64. Grand View moves to 8-1 in the Heart and 11-1 overall as they eye one last conference game before the end of the semester.
