PERU, NEBRASKA - The Vikings picked up where they left off following the holiday break. The recently ranked No. 23 Grand View women's basketball team traveled to Peru, NE, hoping to continue their undefeated conference streak. The Vikings emerged victorious after a huge fourth quarter, 99-82, moving to 4-0 in the Heart.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Vikings took a backseat in the opening score as Peru got on the board first. The Vikings went on a 4-0 run to control the lead after a 3-ball by
Ella Larsen and a lay-in from Gossling, both keys to the Vikings' victory. Peru State had as much as a six-point lead in the first quarter, but
Ellie Rengstorf would cut the deficit to four. Back-to-back three-pointers from
Malarie Ross and
Cleao Murray would give Grand View an equalizer heading into the second quarter tied at 24s.
The second quarter would find both teams struggling to find an offensive rhythm. The Vikings scored 18 points to the Bobcats 17 in the second quarter. The only Viking to connect at the 3-point line was
Rachel Leerar, who hit a big three late in the second quarter with less than a minute remaining, giving Grand View only a one-point disadvantage.
The Vikings came out to play in the third quarter, and Larsen went on a 4-0 run to open her team's third quarter. The Vikings took their largest lead of the game after Murray connected on a three-pointer under the five-minute mark drawing the score to 60-53. The Bobcats closed out the third quarter with a 6-0 run to bring themselves back within two heading into the final quarter.
No. 23 Grand View left no doubt in the fourth quarter as they exploded for a 30-point quarter. Gossling led the charge with 12 points, connecting on 4-6 FG, 2-3 PFG. The Vikings finished with an 8-0 run to defeat the Bobcats-handedly 99-82.
