DAVENPORT, IA – Grand View held St. Ambrose scoreless for nearly the entire match, but a late goal proved to be the difference as the Vikings fell 1-0 on Tuesday night at SVAC.
St. Ambrose controlled much of the run of play from the opening whistle, out-shooting Grand View 8-4 in the first half and testing goalkeeper Maya Fritz on five separate occasions. Fritz was up to the task each time, turning away shot after shot to keep the match scoreless. Grand View had a couple of answers of its own, with Dakota Enikova firing two shots in the run of play, but the two teams went into the break locked at 0-0.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with St. Ambrose pressing and Grand View leaning on its goalkeeper. Fritz made four more saves after the break, while Grand View's best look of the half came in the 71st minute when Riley Pryor forced a save from the St. Ambrose goalkeeper. Grand View continued to rotate its lineup throughout the half in search of a breakthrough, but it was St. Ambrose that finally broke through in the 81st minute to make it 1-0.
Grand View pushed for an equalizer in the closing minutes, continuing to substitute fresh legs into the match, but could not find a way past the St. Ambrose defense as the Bees closed out the win.
