DES MOINES, IOWA – The Vikings dropped a tough home matchup against Park on Tuesday evening, falling in three sets, 16-25, 21-25, 16-25. Grand View falls to 12-7 overall and 11-6 in Heart of America Conference play.
Park came out firing in the opening set, and despite Grand View keeping pace through the early stages, trying the set multiple times before 12-12. The Pirates pulled away with a dominant run. Park took six consecutive points to lead 18-12, and the Vikings were unable to recover, dropping the set 16-25.
The second set was Grand View's best of the night. The Vikings rallied from an early 1-8 deficit, with Cheikh Sou delivering back-to-back kills and Guilherme Domdei Goedert contributing a service ace and a kill to pull within 23-20. Park steadied themselves and closed out the set 25-21, but the Vikings showed fight.
The third set saw Park take control early behind a service ace and a dominant run from Veljko Stojic, who helped the Pirates surge ahead 13-7. Grand View called timeout and battled back, but could not overcome the deficit, falling 16-25. .
