Women's Bowling

The Vikings Travel to USBC Sectionals

ADDISON, ILLINOIS - The Grand View University Women's Bowling Team traveled to Addison, IL to compete in their designated Sectional making this 14 out 15 that the program has qualified for in our 15 Seasons. There are 80 teams that qualify and are divided into four Sectional sites. Teams bowl 64 baker games in two days and only four teams advance from each Sectional to USBC Intercollegiate Team Nationals.(Our women's program has advanced four times in the past to USBC Team Nationals.) We also had the largest Sectional this year with 25 teams being sent to Addison.

Day #1. 32 Baker Games. The women started out a little cold shooting a 2655 the first 12 and 2645 second 12 placing them 22/25 day one. Day #2. The women came back determined to move up. They posted a 2794, the first 12 moving them to 21. After 8 more baker games the women were sitting 20. The final four baker games of the day are a position round. The women dug deep and went around two more teams placing them 18/25 for the tournament.

The women had a great tournament, never giving up and kept encouraging each other not letting up even after a bad game. This is a grueling tournament, they start bowling at 8AM and they don't finish till 5:30PM each day. There is no sitting, this an all-day standing, bowling and moving after each four-game sets. At Sectionals they do give about a 35 minute break between the 12 games to check game totals and everyone uses that as a quick lunch break.

Bowling this tournament was SR. Michelle Stewart, SR. Kylie Arai, JR. Madison Pickett, SO. Brianna Musgrave, SO. Kennady Bigwood, and FR, Annika Weber. We are very proud of how the team came together and sad to see the season end and to have to say goodbye to our seniors.

I do want to give a shout out to parents Shannon and PJ Pickett setting up an area both days, making sandwiches setting out snacks and water for the bowlers and coaches. During the tournament they made sure everyone had water. Also, a shout out to the parents that came and supported us at Sectionals. To all the parents that came through out our season that supported not just the women's teams but also the men's team with Desi and DJ Wilder providing snacks and water for the men's teams. To All parents that made our tournaments to support our teams and brought snacks a big thank-you.
