GV Takes Care of KWU in Three Sets

DES MOINES, IOWA – The Vikings hosted Kansas Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon for a conference matchup. Grand View dominated from start to finish, sweeping the Coyotes 25-16, 25-20, 25-14. The Vikings improved to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in Heart of America Conference play.

The opening set started with Andre Lucas Alves Leandro scoring from Guilherme Domdei Goedert to tie the set at 1-1. Jake Winters added a kill from Domdei Goedert, and Davis contributed to give Grand View a 3-1 lead.

Leandro delivered a kill from Domdei Goedert to make it 4-3, and Jonathan Rzepa went on a dominant run. Leandro and Sou combined for a block, and Rzepa added multiple kills and blocks to extend the Vikings' lead. Leandro scored to make it 7-3, and connected on another kill from Domdei Goedert to push the advantage to 8-3.

Winters and Sou combined for a block to give Grand View a 9-3 lead, and Kansas Wesleyan called timeout. Rzepa came through with back-to-back service aces to extend the lead to 11-3, and Leandro added a kill from Domdei Goedert to make it 12-4.

Winters contributed to push the Vikings' lead to 14-5, and Marcus Taylor scored from Winters to make it 15-6. Leandro delivered a kill from Taylor to extend the advantage to 16-7, and Leandro and Rzepa combined for a block to give Grand View an 17-7 lead.

Sou connected on a kill from Domdei Goedert to make it 20-12, and recorded a service ace to extend the lead to 23-14. Davis scored from Taylor to give the Vikings set point at 24-16, and Leandro closed out the opening set with a kill from Domdei Goedert, securing a 25-16 victory.

The second set saw Grand View continue their momentum. Domdei Goedert orchestrated the offense as the Vikings jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Leandro and Rzepa combined for a block to extend the advantage to 3-0, and Rzepa added a kill from Domdei Goedert to make it 4-2.

Davis and Rzepa contributed as Grand View built their lead. Winters added a block to give the Vikings a 5-2 advantage, and Rzepa delivered a kill from Domdei Goedert to make it 6-2. Leandro scored from Domdei Goedert to extend the lead to 7-4.

Rzepa went on another impressive run, recording back-to-back service aces to push Grand View's lead to 9-4. Rzepa continued to dominate with kills and aces, extending the advantage to 13-4. Kansas Wesleyan called timeout, and Rzepa added back-to-back kills from Domdei Goedert to make it 13-5.

Winters scored from Taylor to give the Vikings a 15-8 lead, and Sou added a kill from Taylor to make it 16-9. Pietro Fadanelli contributed from Taylor, and Adriano Roma Ripol scored from Domdei Goedert to extend the lead to 18-10.

Fadanelli delivered another kill from Taylor to give Grand View set point at 19-11. Leandro connected on a kill from Domdei Goedert to make it 20-13, and Rzepa contributed to extend the lead to 21-13. Fadanelli scored from Taylor to make it 24-19, and Leandro closed out the second set with a kill from Taylor, securing a 25-20 victory.

The third set saw Grand View look to complete the sweep. Leandro and Rzepa combined for a block to open the scoring. Leandro added kills to give the Vikings a 3-1 lead, and scored from Rzepa to make it 5-2.

Leandro and Sou combined for another block to extend the lead to 6-2, and Rzepa contributed to push the advantage to 8-2. Sou delivered a kill from Taylor to make it 10-5, and Valencia contributed as Grand View built their lead.

Davis and Rzepa combined for a block to give the Vikings a 12-6 advantage, and Rzepa added a kill from Taylor to make it 13-7. Leandro scored from Davis to extend the lead to 14-7, and Leandro and Rzepa combined for a block to push the advantage to 15-7.

Kansas Wesleyan called timeout, and Leandro connected on a kill from Domdei Goedert to make it 16-8. Rzepa added another kill from Domdei Goedert to extend the lead to 17-8, and Leandro scored from Domdei Goedert to make it 18-10.

Leandro contributed to push the Vikings' lead to 20-12, and Winters added a block to give Grand View a 21-12 advantage. Winters delivered a kill from Taylor to make it 22-13, and Rzepa scored from Taylor to give the Vikings match point at 24-14. Leandro closed out the match with a kill from Taylor, securing a 25-14 third set victory and the sweep.

The Vikings put together a dominant performance, sweeping Kansas Wesleyan to claim their third victory of the season.
