DES MOINES, IA – The Vikings had their first conference match of the season against Culver-Stockton College. Grand View handled business, winning three straight sets with an impressive performance.
Set 1
Grand View started hot with Mariana de Carvalho finishing two kills early. The set went back and forth until Aydia Mayotte served for 8 straight points, which included four more Carvalho kills. The team's defense was brilliant and found Juliana Neves for six straight assists during the run. Grand View pushed the lead to 18-7. The Wildcats didn't go down without a fight as the score tightened towards the end. Vitoria Campos Mello came on late with two big kills and Brooklyn Roder finished the set off a beautiful swing and GV took set one, 25-21.
Set 2
The second set started with kills from Lindsey Hrbek, Campos Mello, and Carvalho. Juliana Neves also found an ace and the Vikings hot start never slowed down in the second set. Mya Clapp delivered three big kills in the set and Campos Mello found 8 of her own! Maiah Kalima-Izumi delivered an ace as well and GV didn't find many hiccups onto a 25-12 win in set two.
Set 3
The Vikings trailed early in this set but found the lead at 10-9. Campos Mello and Clapp found kills to turn the momentum our way. The score was closely knit for a while until Reese Casey sparked the bench with a kill! Beniz Tasdemir sent two straight aces to follow, and GV took a commanding 19-14 lead. The lead was safe the rest of the way, and Carvalho polished the final attack, making the score 25-20 and a clean 3-0 sweep.
