MARSHALL, MO – GV played their second match of the weekend against Missouri Valley College for back-to-back conference games. Grand View made it six straight set as they took down Mo-Val in three, 25-19, 25-12, & 27-25.
SET 1
GV let up the first two points of the set before Maiah Kalima-Izumi served to three straight including an early ace. Vitoria Campos Mello had the first GV kill and quickly followed by another. The match was closely contested until Grand View found a huge run! From 8-6, all the way to 16-6, with everyone getting involved. Mariana de Carvalho and Brooklyn Roder struck two kills and combined for a block together. Juliana was the piece in the middle, assisting on all four of those kills, and delivered two aces in the process. Campos Mello found pieces of the court for two more kills to make things 20-10. The last three points came on the connection from Neves to Carvalho who put the hammer down in a 25-19 win.
SET 2
Two kills from Campos Mello and a service ace from Carvalho started the second set. GV's Jocelyn Barrett delivered a kill shortly after, but some fight from Missouri Valley put things within one, 8-7. Grand View carved a bigger lead with more kills from Carvalho and an ace from Clarissa Hasty. Roder also found two blocks during the set and GV went from up one, to a 21-9 advantage. The Vikings defense held strong and a few errors from Mo-Val late, ended the set 25-12
SET 3
The last set was easily the most competitive. The Vikings were knotted up at 14 a piece. GV had a good spread on the attacking end, finding Carvalho, Barrett, Campos Mello, and Mya Clapp for kills in the early exchanges. GV let up the lead after this on a couple self-induced errors and an ace given up. Grand View was down 18-23 but showed grit to end this one. Carvalho introduced two huge kills and Neves sent an ace to put things within two. After some errors on both sides, the game was knotted back up at 24s now. After giving up a point, Grand View's Campos Mello got hot with THREE STRAIGHT kills, and put Mo-Val to bed 27-25.
