Three Straight in The Charles Johnson Wellness Center

DES MOINES, IA – The Vikings delivered a dominant performance last night at the Charles Johnson Wellness Center. Grand View finished Clarke in three sets, 25-13, 25-11, & 25-21. The Vikings pushed their record to 14-1 and 4-0 in the Heart of America.  

SET 1 

The Vikings started with intensity in Jocelyn Barrett's swing with two kills. Mariana de Carvalho and Vitoria Campos Mello delivered their first aces of the night after that, and Juliana Neves found an early ace as well. Mya Clapp and Brooklyn Roder found kills toward the middle of the set and the Vikings gained an 11-6 advantage. Clarissa Hasty found a rhythm at the serving spot which included an ace and four set points. Carvalho delivered four more kills and a second ace from Neves put the lead at 19-8 and in the driver's seat. Clapp had another two kills late and finished the set 25-13, Vikings.  

SET 2 

 The second set was an even quicker start for the Vikings. Campos Mello started the set serving and went four points that included an ace. Then Adyia Mayotte went four more which included kills from Carvalho, Campos Mello, and Clapp. 10-2 was the early score for the Vikings. Multiple attacks found an open court and at 20-8, Mayotte serviced two aces in another Vikings run. Carvalho punished the defense with beautiful attacks the whole set, and Campos Mello combined with Brooklyn Roder to end the set 25-11.  

SET 3 

Mayotte scored 4 points during the service run early in the third set. Though the Vikings were up, many points came from Pride errors at the start of this set. The Vikings Chloe McDermott entered the game and put two kills away early, off the assist of Emily Byrd. Barrett punished two kills herself before McDermott found another kill. McDermott also combined with Roder for two blocks and back-to-back GV points. Byrd shared the ball at the setter spot and found Carvalho, Barrett, and McDermott for three points in a row, and the Vikings ended with a kill from Clapp and Barrett. The score ended at 25-21 and another sweep for your Vikings.

Grand View will host the Heart of America Game of the Week on Friday, September 19th. The game will be played at 7:00 PM against No. 11 Missouri Baptist University.
