BALDWIN CITY, KANSAS – The Grand View Women's Soccer team fought hard against Baker University but ultimately fell 3-1. The game showcased both teams' attacking efforts and resilience, with Baker capitalizing on their scoring chances to secure the victory.
Baker opened the scoring early in the first half, with Naomi Harris-Hyche netting an unassisted goal at 22:54. Shortly after, at 26:28, Rihanna Blanchard added another for Baker, giving them a 2-0 lead. Despite the deficit, the Vikings continued to press forward and created some scoring opportunities. Early in the second half, Baker scored their last goal of the night, making the deficit 3-0 in the 65th minute.
A few minutes later, Grand View's lone goal was off the foot of
Ginevra Spinelli in the 68th minute, assisted by
Blair Burnham. The Vikings' attack produced three shots in the game, with Spinelli's goal demonstrating their effort to stay competitive. However, Baker's defense held firm, and their offense out-shot Grand View 12-3, controlling much of the play.
Defensively, Grand View's back line worked diligently, although Baker's attackers found success. Goalkeeper
Maya Fritz made three saves, including some critical stops, but the team was unable to prevent Baker from scoring three times. Baker's disciplined defensive effort limited Grand View's chances and helped secure the win.
The game was physical, with a total of 16 fouls committed, and Baker also had a significant advantage in corner kicks (12 to 1). Despite the loss, the Vikings showed determination and fought to the end, gaining valuable experience on the road.
