DES MOINES, IOWA – Grand View Men's Soccer faced Morningside for their home opener, delivering a dominant 3-0 victory behind a strong team performance and precise finishing. The Vikings controlled much of the game, creating multiple scoring opportunities and maintaining pressure throughout the match.
The action kicked off with Grand View establishing an early presence. In the 42nd minute, Justin Figaroa opened the scoring with a well-placed shot, assisted by Payton Chapman, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Coming out in the second half, Grand View continued their offensive push, adding a second goal in the 76th minute when Dylan Hunston found the back of the net. The Vikings didn't let up, and in the 84th minute, Tim Schoorlemmer scored with an assist from Ignacio Gonzalez, sealing the victory with a 3-0 scoreline.
Throughout the match, Grand View outshot Morningside 15 to 3, with five shots on goal compared to none for the Mustangs. The Vikings also held a corner advantage with four compared to Morningside's two, showcasing their offensive dominance. Despite a few fouls and a yellow card, the Vikings maintained composure and tactical discipline, preventing any Morningside threats from developing. The team's defensive effort was solid, with no goals conceded and only two saves made by Morningside. Overall, Grand View's cohesive play and clinical finishing led to a well-deserved victory to open their season.
