OSKALOOSA, IOWA – Grand View men's basketball traveled to Oskaloosa, Iowa, for the annual "Toilet Paper" game, where they battled closely with the Statesmen. Despite the Vikings staying within striking distance for most of the contest, the Statesmen fended off Grand View's late pressure, resulting in a loss for Grand View, 86-72.
The Vikings triumphed over the Statesmen at home earlier this season, and in their last matchup in Oskaloosa, Grand View secured a thrilling victory on a last-second buzzer-beater by
Noah Hart.
Grand View came out strong in the first half, with
Ayden Foster scoring early layups and free throws, helping the Vikings take an 8-2 lead.
Jackson Green followed up with a clutch three-pointer, pushing the advantage to 7 points. Although the Vikings struggled with turnovers, they stayed competitive thanks to Foster and
Jaxson Young's strong performances inside. William Penn capitalized on several key three-pointers to take a slim lead, but late baskets from Foster and a free throw from Green brought Grand View within 37-35 at halftime.
In the second half, Grand View briefly took a 39-38 lead after another three-pointer from Green, but William Penn quickly regained control. Manny Hammonds and LeQuan Washington sparked a run for the Statesmen, stretching their lead. Despite strong contributions from Foster, who added crucial layups, and Young, who delivered free throws and field goals, Grand View struggled to convert on key possessions. Late efforts, including a three-pointer from Green and a jumper from
Carsen Jones, gave the Vikings a burst of energy, but William Penn held on for the 86-72 victory.
