Box Score ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI - The Grand View women's basketball team delivered an impressive performance on the road, defeating Missouri Baptist 71-47.
Grand View struggled to find their rhythm early, missing their first several attempts from the field. Missouri Baptist capitalized on the slow start, building a 7-2 lead. The Vikings battled back with Anna Gossling knocking down a three-pointer assisted by Amaya Davison to cut the deficit to 9-5. Taryn Ottemann finished a layup in the paint and Eva Peterson added a jumper to help Grand View close the gap to 17-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter belonged to the Vikings. Gossling opened the period with a pair of free throws after being fouled, and Knock followed with a layup in the paint. The Vikings' defense clamped down while the offense found its groove. Lily Smith drained a three-pointer to give Grand View a 21-19 lead, igniting a 14-0 run that saw Claire Galbraith connect from beyond the arc to extend the advantage to 26-19. Smith continued her strong play off the bench with a jumper, and Eva Solseth added a layup in the paint. Galbraith hit another layup in the paint late in the quarter to give the Vikings a commanding 34-31 halftime lead.
Grand View maintained their momentum in the third quarter with suffocating defense. Davison scored a fast break layup to push the lead to 36-31, and after Missouri Baptist turnovers, Taryn Ottemann converted a three-point play to extend the advantage to 39-32. The Vikings' defensive pressure forced multiple Spartans miscues, and Gossling punished them by hitting a three to end the third quarter to build the lead to 54-41.
The Vikings controlled the fourth quarter from start to finish, never allowing Missouri Baptist to mount a serious threat. Claire Ladage scored a layup in the paint assisted by Knock, and Smith continued to make plays on both ends with a blocked shot. The Vikings were able to continue their momentum through the end of the game, taking the 71-47 victory.
